About Linda

Linda Sittig is an author and educator based near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. With a career spanning 36 years in public education and at Shenandoah University, she has inspired countless students and teachers with her passion for history and literacy.

Her writing has been featured in The Washington Post, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Hands On: Cultural Journalism. For 15 years, she wrote “KinderBooks,” a beloved newspaper column promoting family literacy in the Washington, D.C., metro area.

Linda’s true calling lies in unearthing the untold stories of strong women who defied the odds. Her monthly blog, Strong Women in History, now in its 14th year, celebrates courageous women from around the world and is read in over 64 countries. This passion has led to five published books: Cut from Strong Cloth, Last Curtain Call, Counting Crows, B-52 DOWN, and Opening Closed Doorsall highlighting remarkable women.

Honored with multiple “Teacher of the Year” awards from local, state, and international reading associations, Linda continues to share her love for storytelling through speaking engagements with book clubs, history groups, and civic organizations.

Her own love of reading began long ago when she first read “Lad, a Dog” by Albert Payson Terhune and couldn’t wait to go to the library for the sequel. Today, when she’s not reading, writing, or speaking, you’ll find her enjoying life with her family.

You may not know that Linda was the Hula Hoop champion of sixth grade, but now spins stories instead.

“Sittig is a master of writing. I feel I could sit down with her characters in Last Curtain Call and have a conversation with them.”

– Homer Hickam, NY Times best-selling author of Rocket Boys/October Sky
